I’ll be honest. Buying a bouncer was the last thing on my priority list. I had done my
research, invested in my snazzy crib, and found a good stroller at a great discount. Everything
had told me having an extra seat where the baby can bounce in is most definitely going over
the top and unnecessary. I proudly checked everything off my things and went to the hospital
to give birth as a very satisfied mama-to-be.
Of course, the first rule of motherhood is that whatever you imagine and plan, will only be
chucked out the window the moment the baby comes because they all come with their own
personalities and patterns, none of which you even had the capacity to assume before.
Just like that, a week into bringing the baby home he had his first gassy episode.
Bouncing Baby Woes: Surviving Colic and Sleep Deprivation
Panicked, sleep-deprived, and down the overthinking rabbit hole, and my husband spent
the entire night carrying the baby around in hopes of making him relax and doze. Invariably
the doctor diagnosed the most probable cause: Colic. There were no medications for it, gas
drops or gripe water could only provide momentary relief and so we were left scrambling
trying to figure out what would work for us. And the most seemingly obvious thing was rocking
or bouncing the baby in our arms. It was well and good the first few nights, but as sleep
deprivation was beginning to overwhelm both me and my husband, we encountered the
next logical issue in our coping mechanism – The baby had adapted! And now would only
doze or calm down so long as we kept bouncing or rocking him in our arms.
Now before the pregnancy, I did work out. Considered myself reasonably healthy. But 9
months of stuffing myself with all sorts of cravings and telling myself I could skip gym had left
my arms quite flabby. My husband, an economics major spent all his day staring at
spreadsheets, and using a wireless mouse can hardly be equated to arm day. So a few days
later both of us were nearing our breaking points which were only magnified by aching arms
from bouncing and rocking the baby in them all day.
The Aha Moment: Unexpected Role of a Baby Bouncer
While both of us were sprawled on the floor exhausted after a considerably intense crying
episode from the baby, he hissed at me asking if, from the forty things I had ordered before
the delivery, he was capable of bouncing the baby. And that was my cue to realize – never
ever underestimate any baby product. Everything has a purpose. Especially products whose
name cannot make it more obvious the purpose that they serve – a bouncer!
The next morning my husband’s leave was over and he went back to work. Which meant I
had nobody to bounce the annoying little creation of mine while I whipped some food in the
kitchen. So, as he finally dozed off in my arms after I’d spent the day stuffing cookies in my
face, I opened my phone with a mission: I shall automate the bouncing process ASAP.
There were lots of options available. Some lower-end, fairly simple contraptions. Despite my
desperation though, my cluttered brain was only attracted to types that were somewhat
esthetically pleasing.
So, when my search arrived on Alpine Deluxe Portable Bouncer, the first thing
What made me appreciate it was the bougee design it had.
Sit. Play. Relax. And do it all in style. The go with Me Alpine Deluxe portable Bouncer offers your little one 3 positions of recline to optimize their comfort level. The mesh inset in the cover allows for increased airflow, while the entire cover can be removed for machine washing. A 3-point harness keeps your baby securely in place and the removable toy bar provides an adorable entertainment option.
Stylish Design
In Charcoal Tweed, it had an expensive-looking feel and felt like one of those
things you probably see in celebrity homes. That was enough, I purchased it. This should
also tell you a lot about my mental state because for everything else I had researched for
weeks in advance and when it came to the item I needed on an emergency basis, the selling
factor was its aesthetics. Can confirm, motherhood and sleep deprivation are definitely a
journey of self-discovery.
Multiple Recline Positions
The moment of truth came for us when the Portable Baby Bouncer arrived.
And as it always is with all things children, the instant I put him in it the first time he cried
bloody murder. Panicked, I fumbled around with the settings to try and make sure he was
more comfortable, and about after the second try, he seemed to settle in. This brings me to
the most efficient feature of the bouncer which is its multiple recline positions. The Alpine
Deluxe portable bouncer comes with three recline positions to ensure you correctly put the
baby in the position they find most comfortable. The different reclining positions came in
especially handy after I had cracked the code of spit-ups and burping. Each time I placed the
baby in the bouncer after a feed I ensured the back was at its straightest setting to ensure
spitups don’t cause any choking hazard. And whenever I was working in the kitchen and the
baby needed to keep me in their line of sight to stop fussing, I’d adjust it to the one where
they were naturally tilted to have the mama in focus instead of struggling to twist or turn his
head.
Safety and Hygiene features
The bouncer also had a 3-point harness to avoid potential
accidents or rolling out options once the child is slightly past their infant months. The
harness also helped during times when the baby was feeling extra active and convulsively
was kicking his arms and legs around a lot. Not only that, the inner seat was designed with a
mesh insert, allowing for increased airflow and limiting the growth of bacteria which is
traditionally an issue with padded seats in baby items. The best part was the entire mesh
cover was machine washable which meant once the baby finally started having some
semblance of sleep routine, I could easily clean the bouncer during their nap time to ensure
it remained clean and hygienic.
Portable
The Alpine’s Deluxe Portable Bouncer functional design allowed me to flatten the entire bouncer after
tinkering with only two latches. The bouncer also came with handles so once it is flattened it
automatically became a carry bag making it an ideal companion for when we decided to go
for outings and needed bub to have his own independent seat. This was perfect for family
picnics because we could make our baby sit beside us and the inclination option allowed us
to adjust the bouncer in a way that he got a great view of trees. Something he greatly
enjoyed especially once he started spotting squirrels.
Removable Toy Bar
The Portable Infant Bouncer also came with a removable toy bar that had three built-in
plushy toys but we had the option to hang more. This not only becomes a great source of
entertainment for children but also distracts them while they are fussy and at later stages
serves as an educational activity where children can be introduced to colors and shapes
from the mobile toys.
What I realized from my experience was that a bouncer being worth it greatly depends on
your specific needs and circumstances. In my case, I needed something that would help soothe my baby, provide entertainment while also freeing up my hands so I could do
housework in peace and the Alpine Deluxe Portable Bouncer provided just that.
